PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The name of the program is Community Alliance for Summer Theatre
(C.A.S.T.)® .
The program is open to youth (no restriction on county of residence)
ages 10 to 19.
Starting in March or April each year, the Players will hold open
auditions/signup for the June Player show to be cast from that
age group only (10 to 19) with emphasis on Middle and High School.
For 2008, the auditions have been scheduled for March 17 and 18
with the bulk of rehearsals scheduled so as not to conflict with
normal school activities until school is out in late May.
The show may be double cast for some of the roles (i.e. each
cast member will perform in two of the productions).
We may also “cast” a number of other youth to serve
as “trainees” and back stage workers (sets, sound,
lighting, etc.). Since this will be a training and instructional
program, some students may wish to signup for the program rather
than audition for a part.
All of the youth selected (cast and non-cast) will be required
to attend all rehearsals and work-calls. Normal Player rehearsals
are Monday, Tuesday and Thursday nights from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Saturday work-calls are each Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
with lunch provided.
·All rehearsals and work calls will be geared toward instruction
and learning for the youth (i.e. experienced directors, professionals
and others will work as instructors). Some rehearsal time will
be devoted strictly to instruction (for instance during the school
spring break period in April) plus some others along the way in
addition to a mini-workshop taking place at every rehearsal.
The training will include, but not be limited to:
§ How to audition for a community show
§ Basic stage terminology
§ The proper way to move and position on stage
§ Groupings and blocking
§ Makeup
§ Basic set construction and set design
§ Beginning Lighting Design and terminology
§ Speaking and acting techniques
§ Techniques for singing and caring for the voice
§ Basic sound and lighting summary
§ Basic dance routines and steps
·Although similar programs in the Metro Atlanta area charge
a fee for this type of activity, the Henry Players will charge
NO FEE for the students (Estimated at $125 to $200 to cover the
cost of instructional materials, lunches at work-calls, and other
expenses). We will fund the program through private funding and
grants.
·Our program differs from the $500 metro Atlanta programs,
because our young people will not only get training, but they
will appear in and/or work on a full blown production in June.
